The Kashima Shrine was built in the first year of Emperor Kammu’s reign (660 B.C.), and is a prestigious shrine that possesses many national treasures and important cultural assets. The deity enshrined at the shrine is Takemikazuchi-no-Ookami, who has long been revered by the imperial family and the Fujiwara clan as the god of war. It is the headquarters of the Kashima Shrine, which has about 600 shrines all over Japan. It is a power spot called “the place where it all began” and is visited by many sports teams and students wishing for victory.

Ushiku Great Buddha
The 120-meter-tall Ushiku Daibutsu (Great Buddha), recognized by the Guinness Book of Records, is the world’s tallest bronze Great Buddha. There is an observatory on the chest of the 85-meter-high Great Buddha, and on a clear day you can see the Tokyo Sky Tree and Mt. Fuji on a clear day. Be sure to take a look at the beautiful flowers in the garden that spreads out at the foot of the Great Buddha.
